Should You Clean Your Cookie Sheets?

Have you ever wondered if you should clean your cookie sheets? Like you, we have our favorite bakeware. Our baking sheets get used not only for baking cookies, but for roasting vegetables, toasting crostini, baking biscuits, roasting nuts and more.

When to clean cooking pans

Even though most of the time we line our cookie sheets with parchment paper before we put almost anything else on it, there is still stuff that gets baked on over time. Since we use our favorites during the holiday season even more, the build-up seems to multiply. For that reason, we clean them periodically to get some of the old stuff off.

This is the best solution we have found to clean them. Mix a paste of baking soda and white vinegar. Try not to get the paste too runny. It should be just stiff enough so it’s easy to spread over the entire cookie sheet.

Now, let the paste sit for at least 15 minutes. Use something to scrub the paste off and hopefully any burned areas. We like to use a stainless-steel scrubbing pad. A scratchy sponge would work as well.

Non-Stick Baking Sheets

If you have non-stick baking sheets then a scratch-less scrubbing pad would work better than a stainless steel one.

You may have to repeat the process if your cookie sheet does not come clean. Once the paste is scrubbed off, wash and dry it as you normally would.

Keep in mind you probably will not get it to look exactly like new. After all, cookie sheets are meant to be used.
